The ACID-BASE BALANCE:

The food (and mainly proteins comprising the sulphur amino-acids) and cellular operation (production of CO2) lead to a clear production of acids in the form of H+. For Claude Bernard, the interior medium in which the cells live, must remain stable in its physicochemical composition (rate of glucose, temperature, pH etc) to ensure the conditions of a free and independent life. Thus, the living beings, condemned to a hostile environment, recreate within the interior of their organism the favorable conditions to the life of the cells which compose them and can thus survive. This concept will be developed at the end of XIX century by an American physiologist, Walter Cannon, who will forge the term ‘homeostasis’ to qualify this concept.

However, for a normal subject, the arterial pH is maintained within narrow limits: 7,40 ± 0,02. How does this regulation occur? By the ‘buffer’ systems!

These buffers make it possible to absorb or neutralize part of the acidity and to forward it to an elimination organ. In the organism the buffers are declined in 3 main categories:

• Intracellular buffers:

- proteins (in particular hemoglobin in red blood corpuscles)

- phosphates

• Extracellular buffers:

- proteins (in particular albumin in blood)

- bicarbonates

- the mesenchym: or extracellular non circulating liquids.

Osseous buffers:

- calcium carbonates and phosphates

Acidification.  When the body reached the limits of the first buffers, and that the mesenchym is permanently requested, i.e. it stores a great quantity of acidity, and that the night is not sufficient to eliminate, then there is ‘acidosis’. The body arranges then to neutralize surplus acidity by the buffer system of the bones, by extracting from those the mineral salts necessary to the neutralization of excesses of acid. The acidosis, in this case thus acts negatively on the metabolism of calcium and osseous health.

The symtoms of acidification.

A long list, but here the most important symptoms: · fatigability, especially morning · disturbances of the sleep between 1:00 and 3:00 · regurgitation and pyrosis · disturbance of appetite and bulimia · constipation · frequent migraines · fatty skin (especially on the face) · tongue charged on its posterior part · morning bad breath · amygdale hypertrophied by children · moist and cold hands · abundant perspiration of the feet · tendency to perspiration (cold sweats) · brittleness and less resistance to cold · tendency to catch a cold easily · muscular pains, muscles of the neck and the shoulders hard and painful · chronic bronchitis with mucus formation · vaginal discharge · lack of enthusiasm, bitterness for work Generally speaking any chronic disease is accompanied with a state of tissue acidosis. But certain pathologies are of a more ‘acidic’ type. It are: - rheumatisms - diabetes - renal and bladder affections – Basedow’s disease (hyper functioning of thyroid gland) - cancerous diseases in general – leucemia. Official medicine in general treats its customers for symptoms which originate in a displacement of the environment. In naturopathy or natural medicine the experts balance the environment or ‘terrain’ first of all.

Interstitial water, bonded water:

Speaking about acidosis, is there not a contradiction with the Vincent bioelectronics? Indeed the symptoms described previously, resemble strangely to those of the alkaline and oxidized zone in the bio-electronigram. Then? Acidose or alkalose? Note this important point about description in term of acidosis, largely employed by the school of the naturopathes and the Kousmine school, refers to bounded water, i.e. ‘intra’-cellular. Whereas the Vincent bioelectronics refers to interstitial water, permanently circulating water, that are blood, saliva and urine.

In fact it is recognized that a blood, which tends towards the alkaline one, gives acid fabrics (daily experiment of the doctors which measure parameters BEV of the blood of their patient). Cancer for example, is a disease in which the cells are very acid, charged with lactic acid, whereas the corresponding blood is alkaline. Many measurements at doctor's office attest this fact. The INSERM of Lille as well as the UFR of Pharmacy of Montpellier, succeeded, by a method of fluorescence to measure the intracellular pH of a cancer cell. The pH is of 6.2, whereas the pH of a healthy cell is of 7.05.

The cell, after many radicalizing attacks on its membrane, (attack of membrane phospholipids by the free radicals) loses its capacities to exchange with the external medium and it is in fact the cellular breathing which is compromised. Waste, in particular the lactic acid produced by the metabolism, is not eliminated any more. The cell becomes acid. This cellular state is the open door to the diseases of degeneration. Note also that the genesis of cellular acidity is including a phase of per-oxidation of the membrane lipids. The acidic-basic balance is thus closely related to the state of oxidation-reduction of the body as a whole, why the importance of the measurement of the rH2. One sees, once more the relevance of the bio –electronic diagram of Vincent.
